Summary of publicationThe third Annual Report of the Office of the Director of Mental Health reflects the ongoing emphasis on transparency, accountability and trust in government and its agencies. Mental health care, in particular compulsory care, is often the subject of public concern and this annual report helps to explain such issues.
The report comprises three sections.
Section 1 provides an overview of the legislative and service delivery contexts in which the Office operates.
Section 2 describes the work carried out by the Office in 2007 and
Section 3 provides statistical information.
The Annual Report is a work in progress. Additions to the 2007 report include:
- the inclusion of suicide information and statistics for the first time
- progress on an early intervention programme that seeks to better meet the mental health, and alcohol and other drug treatment needs, of criminal justice consumers
- two interesting appendices: a 1871 report of the joint committee upon lunatic asylums and an editorial piece about district inspectors from Professor Duncan Webb.
